Adire 281S Completed Pictures

Here are some pictures nearing the completion of the veneering process. It took me about 45 minutes per sheet of veneer to cut out, attach, trim and then block sand flush to the adjoining sides. I used household shears to cut the veneer for each side from the main sheet, loose razor blades to trim the sides close and finally 220 grit sandpaper on a sanding block to finish the process. I also taped off previously attached veneer to reduce the possibility of contact cement runs and sanding marks. Please click on the pictures to see a larger image.

I decided to go with a hand-rubbed tung oil finish on the cherry veneer. The pic's below show the process and results. The oiling process took a few weeks to accomplish just the way I wanted as the oil I used took a few days to dry adequately. Pics D and E are during a drying period with non-permanent driver mounting screws in place. Pic's F and G are of the completed speakers. The color of the wood in pic's D and E are very close to the actual color.
